Not Receiving CSV Export

A guide on why you may not be receiving a CSV export

Written by Ethan Patrick

Problem Description

A user encountered an issue where they exported a CSV from Vitally but are not receiving it.

Potential Reasons for the Issue

  1. Unsubscribed Email Status:
If a user has unsubscribed from Vitally emails, it may prevent CSV export functionality.

  2. Permissions:
Admins can restrict which roles are allowed to export data. When your role cannot export, the export icon is unavailable and no export email is generated. Permissions do not cause an export email to arrive late, and they do not cause a download link to fail.

Step-by-Step Solutions

Step 1: Check Email Subscription Status

  1. Confirm with the Vitally support team whether your email is unsubscribed.

  2. Once the Support team has confirmed whether you are unsubscribed, they will resubscribe you.

    1. If you were unsubscribed, you're likely unsubscribing from the daily highlights email, and in doing so, you'll also stop getting CSV exports. Move onto the next step to adjust these notification settings

Step 2: Adjust Notification Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings > Notifications in Vitally.

  2. Locate the daily highlights email option.

  3. Disable only the email notifications while ensuring it doesn’t affect CSV export functionality:

Step 3: Retry exporting your CSV

  1. Retry downloading the CSV after confirming your email subscription status.

Additional Tips

  • Separate Notifications from Functionality:
Avoid unsubscribing at the bottom of the daily highlights email to avoid critical emails like CSV exports to maintain uninterrupted.

  • Allow Time for Large Exports:
Big exports take a while to generate. Exports of several hundred thousand records usually arrive within a few hours, and in rare cases can take up to 24 hours, so the email may simply not have been sent yet.

FAQ

1. Do I need admin permissions to download a CSV in Vitally?
By default anyone is able to download a CSV, however Admins can remove access to specific team roles (e.g., team members, observers).

2. Why does unsubscribing from emails impact CSV downloads?
Certain email settings, such as unsubscribing from daily highlights, also affect system notifications related to CSV export functionality as these all come from the same email.

3. Can I opt out of daily highlights emails without affecting CSV downloads?
Yes, you can adjust your settings in the Notifications section to stop daily highlights while retaining CSV export capabilities.

4. Who can resubscribe me to Vitally emails if I’m unsubscribed?
Vitally support can assist in checking your email status and resubscribing!

5. I got the email but the download link gives me an error. What now?
Download links expire one hour after the email arrives in your inbox. Request the export again and download it within that window. See CSV Export for more on link expiry and download errors.
